Prepared Food Packaging

Start with the meal, the tray and how the pack will be used. Our Hybrid Pro T680 tray sealer lists ready meals and runs seal-only, MAP and VSP packs on one machine.

Typical route: tray supply → product loading → T680 tray sealing → inspection and labeling → case packing

What Are You Packaging?

Ready meals and prepared foods in sealed trays. The application page goes deeper into the challenges, the route and the test.

One sealer, many mealsMeals can share the same tray sealer but still need different loading, flange and sealing conditions.

Explore Prepared Food Tray Packaging

What changes the setup

  • Single or multi-compartment tray

  • Sauce or oil near the flange

  • Fill level

  • Tray material and flange

  • Top film and peel

  • End use: chilled, frozen or reheated

Common Prepared Food Packaging Challenges

Five things that decide how a prepared food tray line performs.

01

Sauce on the flange

Sauce, oil and crumbs near the flange stop the film from sealing cleanly.

02

Fill level

Overfilled trays push product into the seal area.

03

Compartment trays

Each compartment is filled separately, and the film often has to seal along the dividers too.

04

Tray distortion

Heat and handling can bend trays and weaken the seal.

05

End use

Microwave or oven use depends on the tray and film you choose, not on the tray sealer.

Recommended Packaging Route

Tray supply, loading and sealing are planned together, then matched to the meal.

Example weighing and bagging line: incline conveyor, multihead weigher on a working platform and a VFFS bagger
Machines on this route: T680 tray sealer, checkweigher and palletizer.
  1. 01

    Tray Supply

    Empty trays to the line

  2. 02

    Product Loading

Meals placed in the trays, with a clean flange

  3. 03

    T680 Tray Sealing

    Seal-only, MAP or VSP

  4. 04

    Inspection and Labeling

    Checkweighing and labels

  5. 05

    Case Packing

    Trays into cases

Tray supply, loading, inspection, labeling and case packing are integrated around the T680.

Packaging Mode and Machine Fit

Choose the mode for the meal and its end use. All three run on the T680.

  1. Seal-Only

Lidding film sealed onto the tray without changing the atmosphere.

    Up to 25 cycles/min*
  2. MAP

Vacuum, then gas filling with an O₂ / CO₂ / N₂ mix. Residual O₂ below 0.5%.

    Up to 20 cycles/min*
  3. VSP

Vacuum skin packaging, where the meal's shape, the tray and the film suit it.

    Up to 12 cycles/min*

*Machine maximum. Actual output depends on product, tray, film, gas mixture and tooling.

Why the T680

Ready meals are one of the T680's listed applications, and one machine covers all three modes on plastic or paper-based trays. Detailed specifications are on the machine page.

Define Sustainable Good Output

A prepared food tray line runs at the pace of its slowest stage, often loading or a clean seal, so we check every stage instead of quoting the sealer's top speed.

Good trays per minute= Good cycles per minute × Trays per cycle

Trays per cycle depend on your tray, compartments and tooling. We set the final line target from product tests and agreed FAT conditions.

  1. 01

    Tray supply

A steady supply of empty trays

  2. 02

    Loading

Enough filled trays per minute, with a clean flange

  3. 03

    Sealing

A stable seal cycle, with vacuum and gas for MAP

  4. 04

    Inspection

Enough accepted, labeled trays per minute

  5. 05

    Case packing

Enough cases per minute at the trays per case you need

Test With Your Meal

Send a sample or the product details. We run them before the final configuration is fixed. The test is free; you cover the shipping of your samples.

What to send

  • Meal sample or details

  • Tray sample or drawing

  • Single or multi-compartment

  • Top film and peel requirement

  • Packaging mode

  • End use

  • Required output

What the test checks

  • Fill level and flange cleanliness

  • Product in the seal

  • Tray distortion

  • Seal appearance

  • Peel, where required

  • Trays per cycle with your tooling

  • Sustainable good output

FAQ

Questions buyers ask about prepared food packaging.

Ask an engineer

The Hybrid Pro T680 tray sealer, which lists ready meals and runs seal-only, MAP and VSP packs.

That depends on the tray, film, seal and food process, so it cannot be promised from the sealer alone. It has to be confirmed for your tray and film.

Compartment trays need tooling and seal checks for each layout, so we test them with your tray before you order.

It depends on the tray size, the tooling and the mode. Standard tooling seals 4 trays per cycle, at up to 20 (MAP), 12 (VSP) or 25 (seal-only) cycles per minute. Your output is confirmed with your tray and tooling.

Seal-only where no gas is needed, MAP where the meal needs a protective atmosphere, and VSP where the meal's shape, the tray and the film suit it.
