Flour and protein powder

Powder Packaging

Powder packaging starts with dosing. Our VP Series with an auger filler and our VGT quad-seal baggers are used for powders such as flour, milk powder and protein powder.

Packages: pillow and chain bags or quad-seal bags

Powder Packaging Challenges

Six points that decide whether a powder line runs well.

01

Flow and bridging

Cohesive powders bridge and rat-hole in the hopper, so the auger runs short and the weight drops.

What we do · The agitator and hopper are chosen for how your powder flows.

02

Bulk density changes

Powder settles and aerates, so the same auger turn delivers a different weight.

What we do · Auger dosing is checked against weight with your powder in the test.

03

Dust in the seal

Fine powder rising from the bag reaches the seal area and causes weak or leaking seals.

What we do · Every packaging test checks seal quality and powder in the seal area.

04

Dripping after the dose

Free-flowing powder keeps trickling from the auger outlet between doses.

What we do · An anti-leak outlet is matched to your powder.

05

Static

Static makes fine powder cling to the film and the forming tube.

What we do · Static elimination is an option on the VGT and is chosen with your film.

06

Air in the bag

Powder traps air, so bags puff up, sit badly and are hard to case.

What we do · Product settler and bag deflator options on the VGT are matched to your powder.

Recommended Packaging Route

Feeding and dosing are set for the powder first; the packaging machine follows from the package.

Auger filler, VP Series, VGT, checkweigher and case packer
Machines on this route: auger filler, a VP or VGT bagger, checkweigher and case packer.
  1. 01

    Powder Feeding

Screw feeder refills the auger hopper

  2. 02

    Auger Filler

    Doses the target weight

  3. 03

    Packaging Machine

VP or VGT, chosen by the package

  4. 04

    Inspection

    Checkweighing and contaminant checks

  5. 05

    Case Packing and Palletizing

Bags into cases, cases onto pallets

Product settler, static elimination and bag deflators are options on the VGT and are fitted to the project.

Define Sustainable Good Output

A powder line runs at the pace of its slowest stage: refilling the auger, dosing, bagging and sealing. We check each stage instead of quoting the bagger's top speed.

Required kg/h= Good bags per hour × Fill weight

We set the final line target from tests with your powder and agreed FAT conditions.

  1. 01

    Powder feed

A steady refill of the auger hopper

  2. 02

    Dosing

    Enough accurate doses per minute

  3. 03

    Bagging

    Enough good bags per minute

  4. 04

    Sealing

Clean seals with no powder in the seal area

  5. 05

    Inspection

    Enough accepted packs per minute

  6. 06

    Case packing

Enough cases per minute at the bags per case you need

Test With Your Powder

Send a sample or the product details. We run them before the final configuration is fixed.

How the packaging test works

What to send

  • Powder sample or specification

  • Bulk density and flow behaviour

  • Target fill weight

  • Bag type and size

  • Film sample

  • Required good output

  • Dust or static concerns

  • Inspection requirement

  • Bags per case

What the test checks

  • Refill and flow into the auger

  • Dose weight result

  • Dripping from the outlet

  • Dust in the seal area

  • Seal quality

  • Bag settling and air

  • Sustainable output

  • Reject and stop causes

FAQ

Questions buyers ask about packaging powders.

Ask an engineer

The VP Series with an auger filler, and the VGT series for quad-seal bags of milk and protein powders.

When you need quad-seal bags. The VGT lists milk and protein powders, with options such as product settler and static elimination.

The powder's flow, bulk density and dust, the target dose, the refill method and the output you need.

Accuracy depends on your powder and the auger set-up, so we confirm the weight result with your product in the test.

20–90 bags/min is the VP machine range. A powder line also depends on refilling, auger dosing, bag, film and seal conditions.

The SVC260 is not a standard route for powders. For powder we use the VP Series or the VGT.

Dust extraction and any combustible-dust requirements are reviewed for each project. Tell us the powder and your site rules.

Yes. Checkweighing, metal detection, robotic case packing and palletizing can be integrated around the bag, the case and the pallet.
