A VP Series bagger in our workshop and dry pet food kibble

Pet Food Packaging

Choose the package first, then size conveying, weighing and output around your kibble. Our SVC260, VP and VGT baggers, Wide-Spout pouch fillers and pendulum bucket conveyors are all used for pet food.

Typical route: bucket conveyor → weighing → bagger or pouch filler → inspection → case packing

What Are You Packaging?

Dry pet food and kibble. The application page goes deeper into the challenges, the route and the test.

What changes the setup

  • Piece size

  • Bulk density

  • Dust and fines

  • Surface oil or coating

  • Target fill weight

  • Bag or pouch

  • Required good output

Common Pet Food Packaging Challenges

Five things that decide how a pet food line performs.

01

Dust and fines

Kibble sheds dust when it is conveyed and dropped. It builds up in buckets and hoppers and can reach the seal.

02

Broken pieces

Long drops and hard transfers break kibble and add fines.

03

Oil and coating

Fat-coated kibble sticks to buckets, chutes and weigher pans and changes how it flows.

04

Large fill weights

Bigger bags need more product per minute through conveying and weighing.

05

Carryover between recipes

Product left in buckets, hoppers or chutes mixes into the next recipe at changeover.

Recommended Packaging Route

The same conveying feeds whichever packaging machine your package needs.

Example weighing and bagging line: incline conveyor, multihead weigher on a working platform and a VFFS bagger
Machines on this route: pendulum bucket conveyor, multihead weigher, and an SVC260, VGT or Wide-Spout packaging machine.
  1. 01

    Pendulum Bucket Conveyor

Hygienic or Standard model lifts the kibble to the weigher or filler

  2. 02

    Weighing

A multihead weigher for the baggers; built into the Wide-Spout filler

  3. 03

    Packaging Machine

SVC260, VP, VGT or Wide-Spout, chosen by the package

  4. 04

    Inspection

    Checkweighing and contaminant checks

  5. 05

    Case Packing and Palletizing

Packs into cases, cases onto pallets

Wide-Spout fillers weigh, fill and cap in one machine, so they take the product straight from the conveyor. Inspection, case packing and palletizing are integrated around our machines.

Define Sustainable Good Output

A pet food line runs at the pace of its slowest stage. The conveyor is rated in m³/h, so we convert it to kg/h with your bulk density and compare it with what the packing line needs.

Conveyor supplykg/h = m³/h × Bulk densityLine demandkg/h = Good packs per hour × Fill weight

Supply must stay above demand. Our pendulum bucket conveyors are rated at 10–20 m³/h with up to 25 m lift. We set the final line target from product tests and agreed FAT conditions.

  1. 01

    Product handling

Enough kg/h at your bulk density

  2. 02

    Weighing or filling

    Enough sustainable doses per minute

  3. 03

    Bagging or capping

    Enough good packs per minute

  4. 04

    Inspection

    Enough accepted packs per minute

  5. 05

    Case packing

Enough cases per minute at the packs per case you need

FAQ

Questions buyers ask about pet food packaging.

Ask an engineer

The SVC260, VP and VGT baggers, the Wide-Spout pouch fillers and both pendulum bucket conveyors.

Start from the package. Pillow and side gusset bags: SVC260, or the VP series for a compact line. Quad-seal bags: VGT series. 1–5 kg spouted pouches: Wide-Spout.

Stand-up pouches of 1–5 kg with a 33 mm angled spout. Three models cover different outputs.

160 bags/min is the SVC260's machine maximum, not a pet food line result. Your line output is set from the product, the weighing, the bag and the film.

No. Our pendulum bucket conveyors are rated in m³/h. We convert it to kg/h with your bulk density.
